Hello, I have written before on my husbands behalf. He has metastatic Head Neck Cancer. Started in his mouth (APR 05), and after "the Works" for treatment, now has metastasis to the left chest wall. He is in a clinical trail that he is about done with. He wants to have his Feeding tube put back in because his weight is down a few pounds each passing week. Plus his sore thrt and nausea. Anyway, I was wondering if any of you have read the research of Dr. JoHanna Budwig. It sounds like it could very well be helpful. I won't go into detail of her studies but If anyone is familiar please let me know yopur thoughts. Thank you

Dr. Johanna Budwig (30 September 1908–19 May 2003) was a German chemist, pharmacologist and physicist who believed that cancer is easily treatable through a specially-designed diet. Dr.Max Gerson has also studied, applied and written about having success treating cancer through her diet and other methods.

The so-called Budwig Diet is based around regular consumption of a blend of flaxseed, flaxseed oil, and quark or cottage cheese. Flaxseed is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly linolenic acid, which is one of omega-3 fatty acids. This essential fatty acid must be part of a healthy diet, as the body cannot synthesize linolenic acid itself. Quark or cottage cheese serves as a source of sulphurated amino acids to bind with and solubilize the fatty acids, and thereby improve its absorption by the body.

The Budwig Diet also bars consumption of animal and hydrogenated fats, foods high in preservatives, meats, and especially sugar. Flaxseed oils must be cold pressed and unprocessed.

Most oncologists and cancer researchers do not believe that dietary changes alone can be used to treat advanced cancer. Reports of dramatic remissions as a result of the Budwig diet are anecdotal, and not supported by peer-reviewed research.

Nevertheless, the Budwig diet is relatively sound from a nutritional standpoint, and is likely to do no harm as a complement to conventional cancer therapy.

Dr.Vinod,

Very interesting. I had never heard of this diet. Your explanations are so thorough.

You had asked the forum to vote on mouth sores and the length of time they had experienced sores after radiation. Are you able to publish your findings or are you still collecting data?

In addition, I read your response to my message concerning Erbitux. I hope the members of this website are able to make an impact and get this approved in London.

Dr. Vinod, Thanks for your response. It is most helpful. My husband just had a CT Scan today and his cancer is held at bay. He will go for his feeding tube to be replaced next week and we will get some nutrition into him. I have always been skeptical of the "CANCER DIETS", but I do believe good nutrition certainly can't hurt. Thank you and I always appreciate any assistance you may offer.
