Waiting for biospy but started with earache?

Hi All,
I'm due to have a tongue biopsy on March 15th.I've been to work today and during the afternoon got up to get a drink and felt really dizzy but didn't take too much notice of it but for the past few hours I've started with mild earache in my left ear and never normally have earache.I think the last time was about 30 years ago. It's not too bad at the moment...it's just like a mild tootache but in my ear...slightly throbbing and feel just a little bit naseous...only a bit though.

I'm not sure what to do about it?I don't know if it's related to my tongue or not?

Has anybody else had this while they've been waiting for a biopsy? I can't imagine it's related because I'm sure when the surgeon looked he would have seen the scan results and seen how big it was etc...etc...and would have done the biopsy sooner?

Hope everybody else is ok out there?

Thanks,

Dave.

Hi David,

I am sure you are in a heightened state of anxiety at the moment and probably more aware of aches and pains than usual. In my early twenties I convinced myself I was dying of cancer and experienced all sorts of symptoms that turned out to be nothing.

It was also at that time I started to have anxiety attacks that presented as feeling very dizzy and thinking I was going to pass out. They could be so bad that I would lose feeling in my hands - very scary.

So, your symptoms could be related to your worries or they could be related to your tongue. Unfortunately you won't know until you get the results of your biopsy which could take over a month. That is really a long time to wait. If I were you I would try and contact the consultant who saw your scan and explain how you are feeling to see if he can offer any explanations or reassurance.

I really feel for you David. My partner had a scan yesterday to see whether headaches he is having are caused by anything sinister. I feel really sick and depressed at the moment and had horrible nightmares last night.

Take care
Cathy

Hi David

I've had three bouts of earache in my life. The first and third were the results of ear infection. The second--and most painful--was "referred" pain from the tumor in my tongue, and there was nothing amiss in my ear at all. I had that pain for about 8 weeks, all the while trying to convince myself that I had a cold in my ear. I was never dizzy, but the pain was probably at least a 7.5 out of 10, and NOTHING made it go away. You should have this checked out. I hope you're able to sleep--ear pain made it impossible for me to sleep well.

For your own peace of mind, is there any way you can have the biopsy moved up?

Hoping for the best.

Julia

The earache was gone today so that's made me feel a bit better.I did ring the consultants secretary who was lovely by the way and she said she will have a word with him but haven't heard anything.
I see my gp on Thursday and see if he can do anything to help me.
Thanks for all your replys they have really helped.
Best Wishes,
David.
