If anything is "normal" in respect of this disease.

My mum had operation in April, followed by 6 weeks radiation treatment, then she has been to the hospital almost every month since then.

Last week she saw her surgeon and team and now she doesn't have to go back to see them until June. She is over the moon.

She will be coming to see Dr Joshi next month, regarding her nashers Smiler.

What was everyone else's follow up like ?

Hi Winnie

I had my operation for tongue cancer in October and have been told I will be seen once a month for the first year, every two months for the second year, every three months for the third year etc. (but I can be discharged after 5 years if I want if no recurrence). The doctor said he knew this needed a big commitment from me but I feel reassured that they are keeping a close eye on it. A bit different from when I finished my radiotherapy for breast cancer and they said that they would see me in a year's time - rather than feeling reassured by this I felt abandoned Frowner !

Hope things continue to go well for your mum.

Best wishes

Gwyn

Hi all you lovely women,

I had started with going to meet my oncologist once a week, which then turned once a month and then it was whenever I wanted to and now it is never. I have not been for a checkup in the last two years (a complete check up- with anything being shoved through my nose or doing any x rays etc) I have also decided that I will not step into the hospital premises what ever happenes as I have had enough of hospitals and some of the most ugly nurses one can come across ( I am joking - but they and not Miss World standards). Unfortunately all the good nurses have moved to the UK!!!... so we are stuck with the left overs. Sad but true.

Keeping everything aside I am really happy for you Winnie and more for your mum who has overcome another hurdle. Do congratulate her and imagine you too deserven the same for taking such good care of her.

Keep her happy and you too remain calm and happy - everthing is falling into place.

Once again - as usual - a lot of love, warm hugs and xxxxx,
Ananth

Hi All,
I have been seeing my specialist each month but thr idea was to alternate between the ENT Specialist and the Oncolgist, however I am not seeing my Oncologist until the 12th of Febuary. I have been very concerned with my throat and when I saw the Specialist on Friday he has made appointments with the Radiologist to have a CT Scan & Barium Swollow on Tuesday and another appointment with the ENT Specialist on Wednesday to tell me what the hell is wrong with my throat.
Winnie your Mum is a Champ and I hope she is keeping up with all the yummy meals I recommended, Give her my LOVE and keep in touch.
Love TREV

For a year i was every 2 months to the oncy, with my ENT specialist periodicaly in between. Now i'm one year out i'm seeing the oncy 6monthly and the ENT 6mothly so i'm seeing someone every 3 months. Camera-up-the-nose-thingy each time. Haven't had a C.T. since i had my base scan after treatment. But they dont wanna expose me to any more radiation than they can help!

Thats fantastic for your mum... She's come such a long way!
Trev, whats going on with your throat?

Hi! Chelle,
I have been having trouble over the last 3 = 4 weeks with my swollowing and have had a nigling concern that the dreaded C has appeared lower in my throat, this comes about after I had started to get my fluids come back up into my mouth after I had swollowed it, it takes me 3 - 4 swollows to get a small amount of fluid down my throat. Also I am now having to regurgitate my food ( not always )to reswollow it and I am having to drink a lot more fluid to get food down ( so the cycle continues ).
The ENT Specialist stuck the camera down my nose and then went deeper into my throat and was getting me to swollow several times to see if there was anything further down, he seemed to think that there was something deeper in my throat like a blockage or maybe still a result of the RT ( I hope it's the later ), that is why I am having the scan and swollow/
Good to hear from you take and I will fill you in after my visit with the ENT Specialist.
LOVE TREV

Hi Trev

I think my son was not far behind you with his treatment. He finished R/T in August. Oncologist did say his throat is still quite swollen which would be in his words not surpising and was from the amount of R/T he had, so fingers crossed and will keep you in my thoughts, take care.

Love
Mum

Hmmm... I expect it's the R/T too. Its not good to all those muscles and scar tissue and strictures can start to form.
I'm sure kicked its ass Trev.
Let us know how the scan goes though.

Trev, Lots of luck on your follow up. I too after seeing my surgeon saw my RO who put the dingy down my nose and said he saw a slight red spot on the base of my tongue in the same place where 1cm of thickness that had showed up on my CT scan. My surgeon said she was not worried about it and then my RO says come back in six weeks instead of 3 months to be re-checked. So I think to myself I'm glad the surgeon is not worried about it even if I am. Go figure?
Best of luck, Steven

Hi! All,

Thanks All for your thoughts and wishes, after going into the xray place and finding out that I was a day early Thinking Banghead I finally got in and had first my CT Scan and bled quite profusely from the tiny needle prick in the crook of my arm, and this was followed by the Barium Meal Swollow which was really strange when you are tryingb to swollow liquid chalk with a dry mouth ( YUK ) then I had to drink some Crystalised Gas to blow up my stomach and whilst this was in my stomach (and not allowed to burp)I had to swollow some more Barium Meal.
The whole saga lasted about 3/4 of an hour then another hour for the results and Bugger me I was let known that there was NO nasty little bastard in there other than some swelling posibly causede by the RT Big Grin so I am off the hook But have to see the ENT Specialist tommorrow at 9.00am.
I will let you all know the Docs report after seeing him, again thanks and keep in touch.
Love TREV
