Great news! Have a great interview. You will do better than you expect.

Some tips: Keep it simple. The media usually want to know your story and bottomline advice you might wish to give to viewers. You will find the material on the MCF homepage useful, print it out and take along to act as an aide memoire. Just tell them that they can more more info and access online support from the MCF website ('www.mouthcancerfoundation.org')

I have heard from Julie that Georgia's surgeon has been interviewed by Sky News about Mouth Cancer. It might be tied in with your interviews tomorrow.

Just to let you know that Sky News didn't turn up! But, Tyne Tees Television did and it goes out at 6p.m. today. As I am having a coffee morning at home tomorrow, the house is decorated with blue ribbons and lots of goodies and Christmas cards are about. I also had the Mouth Cancer t-shirt hanging up and they took a close-up of that plus took note of the Mouth Cancer website. I just hope I answered all their questions sensibly. I will be watching from behind the sofa!

Sorry I've only just logged on and seen that I've probably missed the interviews. How frustrating. I hope all went well and that you're pleased with the results. I'll tune in to see if they repeat anything.

I've been quite horrified and embarrassed by my moments in the spotlight so far: this morning (5.25 this morning!) I saw myself on the regional tv news. I couldn't bear to hear myself so I hit the 'mute' button (I've never heard myself speak since my surgery) By the time the next bulletin was on I'd decided that I had to listen (how else can I know what I have to work on?) and I almost wept. I couldn't understand the first few sentences at all, so goodness knows why they broadcast it, but I soon tuned in to myself and did pick up what I was saying about being self-aware and what to do...

I've just this minute heard the first radio interview and I sound... well, there's a Scottish term, 'thick as mince', that comes to mind. Nerves got the better of me on the day and it shows; I was stumbling for words and, although I'm easier to understand in this interview, I sound a bit stupid.

Hey ho. Can't have everything! There's a small chance that Scottish TV will want to do a follow up and I'm waiting to hear back from Leigh at BDF about that (problems with venues and time)

More good news! I nipped in to see my university tutor to thank her and have a chat and, as a result, I've been asked if I'd be prepared to conduct workshops for nursing students on communication skills (especially breaking bad news) and possibly a wee bit about head and neck cancer (especially the psychological impact, which seems to be sadly underestimated in my opinion). Obviously I've agreed to do them so it's a case of working out a schedule. The theory is that students are more likely to remember a first-hand account from a patient rather than someone reciting from a text book.

Hello all

I saw a lot of good coverage of mouth (oral) cancers by SKY News throughout today. Saw Dr Sat Parmar, Georgia's surgeon, two of his patients, and 'Heathrow' Steve on SKY.

Haven't seen you, Brenda as I can't get Tyne Tees in Wakefield! BBC Look North had plans for an item about free mouth cancer screening at a dental practice at 6pm today, but I didn't catch it. Tomorrow's Radio York should be carrying an interview with a consultant at York Hospital. I am sure there is lots more going on.

There will be more publicity with Wednesday's parliamentary briefing by CancerResarchUK to launch their 'Open Up to Mouth Cancr' campaign. Thanks to everyone for helping with increasing mouth cancer awareness.

There was also a slot on the Today program this morning linking the extended licensing hours to an item on mouth cancer.

That' great. Every little bit adds to increasing awareness. There appears to have been an unprecedented coverage by the media this year, thanks to so many people and organisations working together this week.

I am doing a live radio interview with a station in Singapore in the morning before work and a prerecorded TV interview in the late afternoon for the evening's BBC Look North programme. Hectic!

Well done to everyone who has been interviewed this week. It is definitely making a huge impact on public awareness of mouth cancer...in my dental surgery my patients have definitely noticed and kept mentioning hearing about mouth cancer this week! Everyone should feel proud of their efforts

It just keeps on rolling. I graduated yesterday and my university PR department have issued a press release about my story, but focussing on oral cancer and the awareness campaign They've put the release out coutry-wide and there has been some interest from Discovery Scotland and from the Manchester Evening News. I've given them an awful lot of information about the cancer so I hope they concentrate on that and not so much about my graduation (as exciting as it was, it's not the issue here).

A couple of people approached me yesterday to say they'd seen my TV appearance so at least the message is getting through to some people

Finally saw myself on videotape from the Sky interview. I came across really well. Does semm wierd watching yourself though.

I know - I found it really hard to watch and hear myself. Everyone tells me I came across very well but I was so shocked to hear this bizarre voice coming out of my mouth. Having been taped for home movies befoer now, I know how I should have sounded. It'll take some getting used to I suppose. The main thing is that people understood me and will hopefully take what I said on board. The tv company have put a couple of quotes from me on their website, so that's a bonus: anyone who couldn't understand me can at least see what I said.
Long may the publicity continue...
