Brachytherapy for cancer of the tongue

I have recently been diagnosed with cancer of the tongue. The hospital recommended Brachytherapy as the best treatment. Unfortunately they have been unable to find any hospital in the UK offering this treatment. We know it used to be available but it now seems that the hospitals offering this have ceased to offer the procedure. Has anybody any experience of this treatment being available recently in the UK?

Hi, I must admit I don't know anything about this treatment but hopefully someone will be able to help you. Regards.

Thanks Penny, I Have spoken to Cancer Research amongst others. I now know that my consultant has made over 100 phone calls in the last week talking to hospitals and specialists the length and breadth of the country. We have accepted that there is no hospital or other organisation in the UK offering this treatment. There is not a high demand for brachytherapy on tongues as most cases are to advanced by the time they are diagnosed. As a consequence as consultants retire or move, on there has been nobody taking their place. In my case Brachytherapy is significantly better than the next best option. We are now looking at going outside the UK for treatment.
